The same goes when you start tearing your hair out with all the frustration, grief, anxiety, and yes, stress. It's a state of mental conditioning that is like taking that bitter pill down your throat, causing you to lose your sense of self, and worse your sanity. Just thinking about it can drive anyone off the edge.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;And they say that the proactive ones are already living off the edge.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;As one stressed-out person to another, I know how it feels, and believe me there are many variants when it comes to stress. Coping with life, and carrying the problems that may or may not belong to you can scratch away the little joy and happiness that you can carry once you head out that door. You can't blame them for being like that; they have their own reasons, so much like we have our reasons to allow stress to weigh us down. They say that stress is all in the mind, well, what's bugging you anyway?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;There are several ways to manage stress, and eventually remove it out of your life one of these days. So I'll try to divide it into a seven-day course for you and I promise it's not going to be too taxing on the body, as well as on the mind.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;1. Acknowledge stress is good&lt;br /&gt;Make stress your friend! Based on the body's natural "fight or flight" response, that burst of energy will enhance your performance at the right moment. I've yet to see a top sportsman totally relaxed before a big competition. Use stress wisely to push yourself that little bit harder when it counts most.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;2. Avoid stress sneezers&lt;br /&gt;Stressed people sneeze stress germs indiscriminately and before you know it, you are infected too!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Protect yourself by recognizing stress in others and limiting your contact with them. Or if you've got the inclination, play stress doctor and teach them how to better manage themselves.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;3. Learn from the best&lt;br /&gt;When people around are losing their head, who keeps calm? What are they doing differently? What is their attitude? What language do they use? Are they trained and experienced? &lt;br /&gt;Figure it out from afar or sit them down for a chat. Learn from the best stress managers and copy what they do.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;4. Practice socially acceptable heavy breathing&lt;br /&gt;This is something I've learned from a gym instructor: You can trick your body into relaxing by using heavy breathing. Breathe in slowly for a count of 7 then breathe out for a count of 11. Repeat the 7-11 breathing until your heart rate slows down, your sweaty palms dry off and things start to feel more normal.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;5. Give stressy thoughts the red light&lt;br /&gt;It is possible to tangle yourself up in a stress knot all by yourself. "If this happens, then that might happen and then we're all up the creek!" Most of these things never happen, so why waste all that energy worrying needlessly?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Give stress thought-trains the red light and stop them in their tracks. Okay so it might go wrong - how likely is that, and what can you do to prevent it?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;6. Know your trigger points and hot spots&lt;br /&gt;Presentations, interviews, meetings, giving difficult feedback, tight deadlines…. My heart rate is cranking up just writing these down!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Make your own list of stress trigger points or hot spots. Be specific. Is it only presentations to a certain audience that get you worked up? Does one project cause more stress than another? Did you drink too much coffee?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Knowing what causes you stress is powerful information, as you can take action to make it less stressful. Do you need to learn some new skills? Do you need extra resources? Do you need to switch to decaf?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;7. Burn the candle at one end&lt;br /&gt;Lack of sleep, poor diet and no exercise wreaks havoc on our body and mind. Kind of obvious, but worth mentioning as it's often ignored as a stress management technique. Listen to your mother and don't burn the candle at both ends!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So having stress can be a total drag, but that should not hinder us to find the inner peace of mind that we have wanted for a long time. Sometimes, when I feel like the world is just too heavy, I look around and find people who continued to live fascinating and wonderful lives. And then thoughts come popping into my mind like bubbles from nowhere – “How did their life become so adorably sweet? How come they still can manage to laugh and play around despite a busy stressful life?”  Then I pause and observed for awhile… I figured out that maybe, they start to work on a place called ‘self’.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So, how does one become genuinely happy? Step 1 is to love yourself. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;My theology professor once said that “loving means accepting.”  To love oneself means to accept that you are not a perfect being, but behind the imperfections must lie a great ounce of courage to be able to discover ways on how to improve your repertoire to recover from our mistakes. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Genuine happiness also pertains to contentment. When you are contented with the job you have, the way you look, with your family, your friends, the place you live in, your car, and all the things you now have – truly, you know the answer to the question “how to be genuinely happy.”&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;When we discover a small start somewhere from within, that small start will eventually lead to something else, and to something else. But if you keep questioning life lit it has never done you any good, you will never be able to find genuine happiness.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I believe that life is about finding out about right and wrong, trying and failing, wining and losing. These are things that happen as often as you inhale and exhale. Failure, in a person’s life has become as abundant and necessary as air. But this should not hinder us from becoming happy.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;How to be genuinely happy in spite all these? I tell you… every time you exert effort to improve the quality of life and your being, whether it is cleaning up your room, helping a friend, taking care of your sick dog, fail on board exams and trying again, life gives you equivalent points for that. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Imagine life as a big score board like those which are used in the NFLs. Every time you take a step forward, you make scoring points. Wouldn’t it be nice to look at that board at the end of each game and think to yourself “Whew! I got a point today. I’m glad I gave it a shot.”, instead of looking at it all blank and murmur “Geez, I didn’t even hit a score today. I wish I had the guts to try out. We could have won!” and then walk away.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Genuine happiness isn’t about driving the hottest Formula 1 car, nor getting the employee of the year award, earning the highest 13th month pay, or beating the sales quota. Sometimes, the most sought after prizes in life doesn’t always go to the fastest, the strongest, the bravest or not even the best. So, how do you become genuinely happy?  Every one has his own definition of ‘happiness’. Happiness for a writer may mean launching as much best selling books as possible. Happiness for a basketball rookie may mean getting the rookie of the year award. Happiness for a beggar may mean a lot of money. Happiness for a business man may mean success. So, really now, how do we become genuinely happy? Simple. You don’t have to have the best things in this world. Its about doing and making the best out of every single thing. When you find yourself smiling at your own mistake and telling your self “Oh, I’ll do better next time”, you carry with you a flame of strong will power to persevere that may spread out like a brush fire. You possess a willingness to stand up again and try – that will make you a genuinely happy person. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;When you learn to accept yourself and your own faults. You pass step 1 in the project “how to become genuinely happy”.For as long as you know how to accept others, you will also be accepted. For as long as you love and know how to love, you will receive love ten folds back.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Again, throw me that same question “how to become genuinely happy?”. I’ll refer you to a friend of mine who strongly quoted- “Most of us know that laughter is the best medicine to life’s aches and pain. But most of us don’t know that the best kind of laughter is laughter over self. The brain itself, entire, was before me within three minutes after the death. It exhaled the odor of spirit most distinctly, and its membranes and minute structures were vascular in the extreme. It looked as if it had been recently injected with vermilion. The white matter of the cerebrum, studded with red points, could scarcely be distinguished, when it was incised, by its natural whiteness; and the pia-mater, or internal vascular membrane covering the brain, resembled a delicate web of coagulated red blood, so tensely were its fine vessels engorged. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I should add that this condition extended through both the larger and the smaller brain, the cerebrum and cerebellum, but was not so marked in the medulla or commencing portion of the spinal cord. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The spinal cord and nerves.&lt;br /&gt;-------------------------- &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The action of alcohol continued beyond the first stage, the function of the spinal cord is influenced. Through this part of the nervous system we are accustomed, in health, to perform automatic acts of a mechanical kind, which proceed systematically even when we are thinking or speaking on other subjects. Thus a skilled workman will continue his mechanical work perfectly, while his mind is bent on some other subject; and thus we all perform various acts in a purely automatic way, without calling in the aid of the higher centres, except something more than ordinary occurs to demand their service, upon which we think before we perform. Under alcohol, as the spinal centres become influenced, these pure automatic acts cease to be correctly carried on. That the hand may reach any object, or the foot be correctly planted, the higher intellectual centre must be invoked to make the proceeding secure. There follows quickly upon this a deficient power of co-ordination of muscular movement. The nervous control of certain of the muscles is lost, and the nervous stimulus is more or less enfeebled. The muscles of the lower lip in the human subject usually fail first of all, then the muscles of the lower limbs, and it is worthy of remark that the extensor muscles give way earlier than the flexors. The muscles themselves, by this time, are also failing in power; they respond more feebly than is natural to the nervous stimulus; they, too, are coming under the depressing influence of the paralyzing agent, their structure is temporarily deranged, and their contractile power reduced. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This modification of the animal functions under alcohol, marks the second degree of its action. In young subjects, there is now, usually, vomiting with faintness, followed by gradual relief from the burden of the poison. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Effect on the brain centres.&lt;br /&gt;---------------------------- &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The alcoholic spirit carried yet a further degree, the cerebral or brain centres become influenced; they are reduced in power, and the controlling influences of will and of judgment are lost. As these centres are unbalanced and thrown into chaos, the rational part of the nature of the man gives way before the emotional, passional or organic part. The reason is now off duty, or is fooling with duty, and all the mere animal instincts and sentiments are laid atrociously bare. The coward shows up more craven, the braggart more boastful, the cruel more merciless, the untruthful more false, the carnal more degraded. ' In vino veritas ' expresses, even, indeed, to physiological accuracy, the true condition. The reason, the emotions, the instincts, are all in a state of carnival, and in chaotic feebleness. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Finally, the action of the alcohol still extending, the superior brain centres are overpowered; the senses are beclouded, the voluntary muscular prostration is perfected, sensibility is lost, and the body lies a mere log, dead by all but one-fourth, on which alone its life hangs. The heart still remains true to its duty, and while it just lives it feeds the breathing power. And so the circulation and the respiration, in the otherwise inert mass, keeps the mass within the bare domain of life until the poison begins to pass away and the nervous centres to revive again. It is happy for the inebriate that, as a rule, the brain fails so long before the heart that he has neither the power nor the sense to continue his process of destruction up to the act of death of his circulation. The song has a very catchy way of conveying its message of being happy to everyone. Bobby Mcferiin's simple message surely made a lot of people by telling them not to worry.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Living a happy, resilient and optimistic life is wonderful, and is also good for your health. Being happy actually protects you from the stresses of life. Stress is linked to top causes of death such as heart disease, cancer and stroke. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;One of the better things ever said is - 'The only thing in life that will always remain the same is change', and in our life we have the power to make the necessary changes if we want to. Even if we find ourselves in an unbearable situation we can always find solace in the knowledge that it too would change. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Social networks or relationships are essential to happiness. People are different, accept people for who or what they are, avoid clashes, constant arguments, and let go of all kinds of resentments. If arguments seem unavoidable still try and make an effort to understand the situation and you might just get along with well with &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Happiness is actually found in everyone, increasing it is a way to make a life more wonderful and also more healthy.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;To be happy is relatively easy, just decide to be a happy person. Abraham Lincoln observed that most people for most of the time can choose how happy or stressed, how relaxed or troubled, how bright or dull their outlook to be. The choice is simple really, choose to be happy. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;There are several ways by which you can do this.&lt;br /&gt;  &lt;br /&gt;Being grateful is a great attitude.  We have so much to be thankful for. Thank the taxi driver for bringing you home safely, thank the cook for a wonderful dinner and thank the guy who cleans your windows. Also thank the mailman for bringing you your mails, thank the policeman for making your place safe and thank God for being alive.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;News is stressful. Get less of it. Some people just can't start their day without their daily dose of news. Try and think about it, 99% of the news we hear or read is bad news. Starting the day with bad news does not seem to be a sensible thing to do.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;A religious connection is also recommended. Being part of a religious group with its singing, sacraments, chanting, prayers and meditations foster inner peace. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Manage your time. Time is invaluable and too important to waste. Time management can be viewed  as a list of rules that involves scheduling, setting goals, planning, creating lists of things to do and prioritizing. These are the core basics of time management that should be understood to develop an efficient personal time management skill. These basic skills can be fine tuned further to include the finer points of each skill that can give you that extra reserve to make the results you desire. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Laugh and laugh heartily everyday.  Heard a good joke? Tell your friends or family about it. As they also say -'Laughter is the best medicine'.&lt;br /&gt;  &lt;br /&gt;Express your feelings, affections, friendship and passion to people around you. They will most likely reciprocate your actions. Try not to keep pent up anger of frustrations, this is bad for your health. Instead find ways of expressing them in a way that will not cause more injury or hurt to anyone.&lt;br /&gt;  &lt;br /&gt;Working hard brings tremendous personal satisfaction. It gives a feeling of being competent in finishing our tasks. Accomplishments are necessary for all of us, they give us a sense of value. Work on things that you feel worthy of your time.&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;Learning is a joyful exercise. Try and learn something new everyday.  Learning also makes us expand and broaden our horizons. And could also give us more opportunities in the future. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Run, jog, walk and do other things that your body was made for. It is itself, in fact,  so greedy for water, it will pick it up from watery textures, and deprive them of it until, by its saturation, its power of reception is exhausted , after which it will diffuse into the current of circulating fluid." &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It is this power of absorbing water from every texture with which alcoholic spirits comes in contact, that creates the burning thirst of those who freely indulge in its use. Its effect, when it reaches the circulation, is thus described by Dr. Richardson: &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"As it passes through the circulation of the lungs it is exposed to the air, and some little of it, raised into vapor by the natural heat, is thrown off in expiration. If the quantity of it be large, this loss may be considerable, and the odor of the spirit may be detected in the expired breath. If the quantity be small, the loss will be comparatively little, as the spirit will be held in solution by the water in the blood. After it has passed through the lungs, and has been driven by the left heart over the arterial circuit, it passes into what is called the minute circulation, or the structural circulation of the organism. The arteries here extend into very small vessels, which are called arterioles, and from these infinitely small vessels spring the equally minute radicals or roots of the veins, which are ultimately to become the great rivers bearing the blood back to the heart. In its passage through this minute circulation the alcohol finds its way to every organ. To this brain, to these muscles, to these secreting or excreting organs, nay, even into this bony structure itself, it moves with the blood. In some of these parts which are not excreting, it remains for a time diffused, and in those parts where there is a large percentage of water, it remains longer than in other parts. From some organs which have an open tube for conveying fluids away, as the liver and kidneys, it is thrown out or eliminated, and in this way a portion of it is ultimately removed from the body. The rest passing round and round with the circulation, is probably decomposed and carried off in new forms of matter. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"When we know the course which the alcohol takes in its passage through the body, from the period of its absorption to that of its elimination, we are the better able to judge what physical changes it induces in the different organs and structures with which it comes in contact. It first reaches the blood; but, as a rule, the quantity of it that enters is insufficient to produce any material effect on that fluid. If, however, the dose taken be poisonous or semi-poisonous, then even the blood, rich as it is in water and it contains seven hundred and ninety parts in a thousand is affected. The alcohol is diffused through this water, and there it comes in contact with the other constituent parts, with the fibrine, that plastic substance which, when blood is drawn, clots and coagulates, and which is present in the proportion of from two to three parts in a thousand; with the albumen which exists in the proportion of seventy parts; with the salts which yield about ten parts; with the fatty matters; and lastly, with those minute, round bodies which float in myriads in the blood (which were discovered by the Dutch philosopher, Leuwenhock, as one of the first results of microscopical observation, about the middle of the seventeenth century), and which are called the blood globules or corpuscles. These last-named bodies are, in fact, cells; their discs, when natural, have a smooth outline, they are depressed in the centre, and they are red in color; the color of the blood being derived from them. We have discovered that there exist other corpuscles or cells in the blood in much smaller quantity, which are called white cells, and these different cells float in the blood-stream within the vessels. The red take the centre of the stream; the white lie externally near the sides of the vessels, moving less quickly. Our business is mainly with the red corpuscles. They perform the most important functions in the economy; they absorb, in great part, the oxygen which we inhale in breathing, and carry it to the extreme tissues of the body; they absorb, in great part, the carbonic acid gas which is produced in the combustion of the body in the extreme tissues, and bring that gas back to the lungs to be exchanged for oxygen there; in short, they are the vital instruments of the circulation. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"With all these parts of the blood, with the water, fibrine, albumen, salts, fatty matter and corpuscles, the alcohol comes in contact when it enters the blood, and, if it be in sufficient quantity, it produces disturbing action. I have watched this disturbance very carefully on the blood corpuscles; for, in some animals we can see these floating along during life, and we can also observe them from men who are under the effects of alcohol, by removing a speck of blood, and examining it with the microscope. The action of the alcohol, when it is observable, is varied. It may cause the corpuscles to run too closely together, and to adhere in rolls; it may modify their outline, making the clear-defined, smooth, outer edge irregular or crenate, or even starlike; it may change the round corpuscle into the oval form, or, in very extreme cases, it may produce what I may call a truncated form of corpuscles, in which the change is so great that if we did not trace it through all its stages, we should be puzzled to know whether the object looked at were indeed a blood-cell. All these changes are due to the action of the spirit upon the water contained in the corpuscles; upon the capacity of the spirit to extract water from them. During every stage of modification of corpuscles thus described, their function to absorb and fix gases is impaired, and when the aggregation of the cells, in masses, is great, other difficulties arise, for the cells, united together, pass less easily than they should through the minute vessels of the lungs and of the general circulation, and impede the current, by which local injury is produced. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"A further action upon the blood, instituted by alcohol in excess, is upon the fibrine or the plastic colloidal matter. On this the spirit may act in two different ways, according to the degree in which it affects the water that holds the fibrine in solution. If you think you’re fat and need to lose weight. And if you think that you’ve ingested more than the allowed preservatives and additives into your body and your liver’s starting to show symptoms of abuse, then it’s time for you to go on a Detox program.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Detox or detoxification is the process of neutralizing or eliminating toxins from the body. Detox plans may be in different forms and ways – from regular exercise to body scrubs and spa massages, to yoga and meditation. But the simplest and the most common perhaps is to go on a detox diet. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;A detox diet is a program that minimizes the chemicals ingested into the body by going for organic food. It highlights food like vitamins and antioxidants that the body needs for detoxification. It also involves taking in of food that will aid in the elimination of toxins like high fiber food and water. It’s just a routine walk to make sure that your&lt;br /&gt;garden is thriving, but you end up finding holes in all of your plants&lt;br /&gt;that looked fine only hours before. The explanations for some of these&lt;br /&gt;plant-destroying holes are garden pests. Some of the main garden pests are&lt;br /&gt;slugs, worms, caterpillars, birds, snails, and the occasional gopher.&lt;br /&gt;Although you can never wipe out these pests entirely, after all your hard&lt;br /&gt;work in the garden you have to do something.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Insects are one of the worst things to have in your garden; they can live&lt;br /&gt;under the soil, in old weeds or piles of leaves, or in a number of other&lt;br /&gt;places. In order to help keep insects away, always try and eliminate&lt;br /&gt;places in your garden and near your garden that these insects and other&lt;br /&gt;plant diseases could be living. Remove old leaves, weeds, or any other&lt;br /&gt;decaying matter that insects and diseases could be living in from your&lt;br /&gt;yard. Also, regularly turn over your garden soil and break apart any&lt;br /&gt;clumps of dirt so that you can eliminate the living spaces any insects&lt;br /&gt;that might be hiding underground. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Another way to rid your garden of the pests is to use dormant spray, which&lt;br /&gt;is used to keep destructive insects and diseases under control. It is best&lt;br /&gt;that you use dormant spray when your plants are dormant, usually around&lt;br /&gt;February or early March. I have used dormant spray many times on my garden&lt;br /&gt;and it has worked wonders on keeping insects out. But as I learned from&lt;br /&gt;experience, dormant spray is only effective if you follow the correct&lt;br /&gt;instructions. When I first decided to use some on my garden, I just dumped&lt;br /&gt;it everywhere in hopes of killing everything harmful. Unfortunately I&lt;br /&gt;ended up killing my entire garden along with my neighbors. Some insects&lt;br /&gt;can be beneficial to your garden though, so be sure to find out which&lt;br /&gt;insects help your garden.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Another pest problem I've had besides insects has been birds. Whenever I&lt;br /&gt;see birds in my garden I run outside a chase them away, but as soon as I&lt;br /&gt;step inside they come right back. The solution that I've come up with to&lt;br /&gt;keep the birds away from my garden is to put a bird feeder in my yard.&lt;br /&gt;Instead of costing me time and money by eating my garden, the birds eat at&lt;br /&gt;the bird feeder. In the long run it’ll save you money. Not only can a bird&lt;br /&gt;feeder help keep birds away from your garden, but they can also be a new&lt;br /&gt;part of your yard decoration. Although not completely eliminating my bird&lt;br /&gt;problem, my bird feeder has made the problem smaller. Getting a dog has&lt;br /&gt;also helped.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;If you start seeing mounds of dirt around your yard, and your plants keep&lt;br /&gt;unexplainably dieing, you can assume that you have a gopher problem. &lt;br /&gt;Thankfully, this is one of the few garden pasts that I haven't had.&lt;br /&gt;However my friend has struggled with a tremendous gopher infestation, so I&lt;br /&gt;decided to research it. Gophers are rodents that are five to fourteen&lt;br /&gt;inches long. Their fur can be black, light brown, or white, and they have&lt;br /&gt;small tails. One method of getting rid of these root-eating pests is to&lt;br /&gt;set traps. The key to successfully capturing a gopher using a trap is to&lt;br /&gt;successfully locate the gopher's tunnels and set the trap correctly.&lt;br /&gt;Another way to get rid of them is to use smoke bombs, which you place into&lt;br /&gt;the tunnel and the smoke spreads through out it and hopefully reaches the&lt;br /&gt;gopher.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;If you suspect that your gardens are being pillaged by any of the pests I&lt;br /&gt;mentioned, I encourage you to try your hardest to eliminate the problem as&lt;br /&gt;soon as possible.
